Terrified and Alone: Ashley and her daughter
Ashley and her daughter were homeless, terrified, and alone. Then you helped them build a stable life. Ashley came to the Ministries broken and fearful. Stuck in an abusive marriage for over a decade, she knew she needed to find a way out and make a better life for herself and her 1-year-old daughter. She mustered up the courage to flee in the middle of the night while he was sleeping.
“I was terrified for my safety and worried I wouldn’t be able to live as an independent adult,” Ashley says.
Ashley didn’t drive, had no job, and didn’t even own a cell phone. She had nothing. The decision she knew she needed to make for her and her daughter’s safety had left her homeless.
“I could not shake the feelings and self-doubts in my head of Did I make the right choice? How am I going to survive and provide for my daughter?”
In the face of intense fear and uncertainty, Ashley turned to Metropolitan Ministries. There, she and her daughter found the safety, stability, and resources they needed to get back on their feet —for good.
“Metropolitan Ministries gave us more than just food and shelter,” Ashley says. “They gave us hope. They gave us encouragement. They helped me be strong in the darkest and scariest time of my life.”
Ashley found a consistent job, where she received a promotion and doubled her income. She was able to save her finances and purchase her own vehicle and find secure housing for her and her daughter.
“I’m not scared of my future anymore, because I know it’s bright,” says Ashley.
“Without Metropolitan Ministries, life would’ve been extremely difficult. I would’ve stayed a homeless single mother of a 1-year-old.”
