DONATING NEW & USED ITEMS

At Metropolitan Ministries we receive questions every day from generous donors looking to donate New and Used items. Below are the steps we recommend taking in order to maximize the impact of your contribution.
Step 1: Determine whether or not the items you wish to donate are useful.
We can only make use of items that are new, nearly new, or gently used. If you don't have use for your old, tattered couch, rusty washing machine, or other used item, chances are it will also be a burden to a person in need. Our mission is to promote dignity among those we serve by providing them the things they need to make a fresh start. If you think that the items you wish to donate may be of use to someone else proceed to Step 2.
Step 2: Consider selling your used items and donating the proceeds to Metropolitan Ministries.
By donating cash instead of used items, you allow us greater flexibility in spending money so that it reaches the people that need it the most. Also, by selling the items yourself, you know the exact value of the donation you can report to the IRS and don't have to worry about estimating the amount for your tax returns. Sites such as eBay and Craig’s List are great places to sell your used items and are very easy to use. If you still believe your item can be of use to someone in need, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3: Call our Donation Line at 813-209-1060.
Call our donation hotline and leave a message. Let us know the kind of items you are looking to donate and your phone number. We will contact you by the next business day to let you know if we are in need of your items. If we are not able to receive your donation, we will gladly refer you to one of our many partner agencies in the area.
